Kot Naikana

Naikana, Jageshwar, Uttarakhand

Kot Naikana, a boutique homestay in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.

With locally sourced construction materials, architecture that draws heavily from old village structures, and the building and running of the property by locals, Kot Naikana prides itself on being an integral part of the local community.

The biggest challenge for local communities across hills and specially Uttarakhand is migration from rural to urban areas. This is majorly due to lack of economic opportunities available in the state in general and specifically in rural areas.

Kot Naikana, in its humble way, has contributed to the local community directly and indirectly.

We have trained and employed 2 boys from the village itself. Then we have trained a few more boys from nearby villages and we use their services whenever needed. Chef Dhan Singh who is also caretaker belongs to the same region. Dhan Singh started his career with Shakti Himalayas after which he worked with similar boutique property but eventually moved to Delhi in search of better prospects. Unfortunately he could not survive the metro madness and after spending 2 years he decided to go back. Today he creates delectable dishes and manages the show at Kot Naikana.

At Kot Naikana we promote local cuisine. Though Dhan Singh can make some great continental dishes but then nothing tastes as good and as healthy as our local food. All the farming is done traditionally without use of any fertilizers. Most of our kitchen supply is sourced locally like milk, poultry, vegetables, staples, spices and preserves.

The place has been entirely built to provide a close to nature experience. We don’t have TVs in the rooms, as we want the guests to explore and immerse in real things rather than virtual. Vodafone and Idea have good network connectivity. In case you need to catch up on some urgent work, internet facility can be provided through hotspot.

Last 3 kms of approach road is drivable dirt track (from Jhankar Seam Temple onwards). Parking area is just about 5 mins walk from the homestay. There are lots of amazing things to do around Kot Naikana. We have attached a fact sheet with this email where you can find all the details and things to do. This area is excellent for birding. Birding guide can be arranged on advance request with additional cost.

We look forward to welcoming you to Kot Naikana!
